Diversity and Recruitment

CIC universities are committed to fostering campus communities that reflect the broader diversity of our nation. From undergraduate research to the doctorate, CIC universities share resources for recruiting and developing diverse talent pools.

The CIC Summer Research Opportunities Program ( SROP) provides a valuable opportunity for faculty to mentor and recruit a diverse pool of prospective graduate students.  For more than 20 years, SROP has helped underrepresented students prepare for graduate school by providing an intensive research experience with a facuty mentor.  Each July, some 500 participants attend the annual SROP conference where they network with faculty.  At the end of the summer, 90% report that they plan to attend graduate school. For more information about getting involved as a mentor, contact the SROP coordinator at your SROP university.

The CIC Doctoral Directory is a listing of doctoral degree recipients from CIC member universities who are members of groups underrepresented in higher education.  The Directory is designed to increase the visibility of alumni who bring diverse perspectives and experiences to higher education.  The Directory will be published in the spring 2009, and will include a free, online database available to the public.  Questions about the CIC Doctoral Directory can be sent to Yolanda Zepeda, zepeda@staff.cic.net.
