Enhance Scholarship and Research

Faculty in the CIC have unparalleled access to scholarly resources and collaborative opportunities.

  • CIC/HathiTrust Digital Repository: Known to scholars worldwide, CIC library collections reflect decades of careful investment. The CIC Library Directors have capitalized on these distinctive resources by co-founding the CIC/HathiTrust Digital Repository that, upon completion, will provide faculty, students and staff with secure access to an online library containing digitized versions of legacy print collections. More about the CIC/HathiTrust Digital Repository
  • Google Book Project: In 2007, the CIC entered into an agreement with Google to digitize as many as 10 million volumes across all CIC library systems. This project represents one of the largest cooperative ventures of its kind in higher education; one that will enable CIC institutions to preserve a vast realm of legacy content and make material available worldwide within just a few years. • Reciprocal borrowing agreements: CIC faculty have borrowing privileges at any CIC member library either in person or through a request for delivery. More about Reciprocal Borrowing
  • Scholarly communication:  Protecting intellectual property rights is an important consideration, as many authors unwittingly sign away all control over their creative output. The CIC encourages contract language that ensures that academic authors retain certain rights. More about Scholarly Communication
  • IT support for collaborative research: : In support of the CIC Provosts' strategic priority to enable strategies and infrastructure to connect researchers and faculty, the CIC Chief Information Officers have focused their collaborative efforts in three areas: network, data storage services and identity and access management.  More about IT Support for Collaborative Research
