Language Study
Collectively, CIC universities offer more than 100 Less Commonly Taught Languages (LCTLs) but individually, no institution teaches more than 65. To expand student access to unique and specialized language courses, CIC members facilitate initiatives such as CourseShare and the Traveling Scholar Program.
- CourseShare: More than 75 LCTL courses in 37 languages have been shared and delivered via live videoconference. For a complete list, please visit the CourseShare database.
- Traveling Scholar Program: CourseShare and the CIC Traveling Scholar Program both provide students with access to specialized courses, but the programs have distinct characteristics, as outlined in this CourseShare/Traveling Scholar Program chart.
CIC institutions host a multitude of the US Department of Education Title VI National Resource Centers (NRC) and Language Resource Centers (LRC). Collectively, 32% of NRC funding has been awarded to CIC institutions through 2013 and 42% of LRC funding, as detailed in this PDF document of Title VI Resource Centers across the CIC.
