CIC-AAS Faculty Manuscript Workshop

CIC-AAS Faculty Manuscript Guidelines
This workshop, modeled on the University of Michigan American Civilization Department’s Junior Faculty Manuscript Workshop, will directly help to develop publication venues for Asian American Studies scholars.  Each workshop brings together faculty authors and readers for an extended and detailed discussion of a book-length project. The aim is to encourage a direct exchange of knowledge and ideas among CIC Asian American Studies Consortium faculty.  They will also provide a valuable resource for faculty seeking tenure and promotion at CIC institutions.  Finally, they will raise the profile of Asian American Studies research at CIC institutions and help develop interest in this work among potential editors and readers from an early stage.

The format might vary, depending on the needs of the author and the availability of readers. A typical format would be for two experienced reviewers to read and prepare a report for the author. This would be followed by meetings and/or telephone conversations to discuss strategies for revision.  If appropriate and feasible, a public presentation and informational meeting with a university press editor can be included.

If multiple projects are submitted, priority will be given to (1) untenured faculty preparing their first book; (2) associate faculty looking to be promoted to full.

If you or a colleague are interested in participating in a faculty manuscript workshop and have a project related to Asian American Studies, please send complete contact information and a brief (1 – 3 page) description of the project to Josephine Lee at jolee@umn.edu.
