Highlight: SROP Conference 2006

On July 21-23, 2006, 583 students and 190 graduate students, faculty and staff gathered on the campus of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign for the 20th annual Summer Research Opportunities Program (SROP) conference.  The weekend event included research roundtable discussions, poster presentations and professional development workshops to enhance student research skills and to nurture graduate school aspirations.  “I came back to campus fired up and really excited about the future” remarked one participant describing the impact of the conference.  Another noted, “You will be surrounded on all sides by scholars and the leaders of tomorrow. You will not return to your home university the same.” The report can be accessed through the SROP webpage.

Recruitment Information Available
The goal of CIC graduate recruitment collaboration is to increase the success of individual universities in enrolling and graduating students from minority and other underrepresented groups. Recognizing that faculty play a key role in graduate recruitment and retention, the CIC Graduate Deans adopted a set of recommendations in spring 2005 that focused on outreach to faculty and graduate programs across their campuses. A report is available.
